The Gwent Branch of NARPO consists of a membership from both the old Newport Borough Police Force and the Monmouthshire Constabulary. These two forces amalgamated in 1967 forming the Gwent Police.
 

The County of Gwent is a preserved county situated on the Welsh boarder between Herefordshire, Powys Glamorgan and the Bristol Channel and River Severn and is the first Welsh County reached on the southern end of the two Severn Bridge Road Crossings and is sometimes referred to as the ‘Gateway to Wales’.
